The year is half gone and I've pretty much neglected my writing for most of it. A few friends and I started up a writing club to get us going, but as May and June rolled by, I definitely flaked out. I feel bad for not submitting anything and supporting others, but I also feel bad for not supporting myself. So I decided that I need to really put some pressure on myself for some self discipline. My idea: 31 days of writing. My goal is one hour a day, but I'll be glad for even 30 minutes. I'm not going to be strict about the definition of writing: it doesn't have to be in my novel, but it does need to be something more than texting. So here's to 31 days of creative pursuits, starting today!
Update:
At 11:10pm I stopped my daily writing session. Wrote a bit over 450 words, not counting this blog. Pretty good! I realized as I was writing that my story falls in line with May's Writer's Group theme: memoir. Maybe I can finish it up tomorrow and send it in. Better late than never!

Book Review: X-Men: Days of Future Past
I forgot to post this back in May, but here's the review of book 9 in my 2014 reading challenge.
X-Men: Days of Future Past by Chris Claremont
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
So I guess I'm ready for May 23rd and the reboot of the X-Men movies. I think I can see where they're headed with this story. I might be prematurely excited about this movie. If it decides to follow the comic at all, I'm going to be very sad.

Book Review: Gris Grimly's Frankenstein
Gris Grimly's Frankenstein by Gris GrimlyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Gris Grimly gives a stark, Steampunk twist to an old favorite. Beautifully illustrated and true to the original. I don't think I ever actually finished reading the original book, but Grimly makes the epistolary novel come alive. I was often reminded of Tim Burton's movies, which isn't a bad thing at all.
